THE PATCHWORK FAMILY TAKES OVER BERLIN FASHIONWEEK
We represent the rockstars of sustainable fashion and need YOU to shake up Europe with our performances.
We are The Patchwork Family, a value-driven fashion community that connects young independent designers from the Netherlands to a patchwork of artists. Contrary to fashion labels, we don’t want to hide designers behind a brand name, but give them the stage they deserve. Through this, we hope to democratise the fashion industry and emancipate young creators.
After successfully collaborating with a variety of institutions, labels and communities within The Netherlands, such as the Depot of Boijmans van Beuningen, Club Church and Humanoid, it is now time for The Patchwork Family to grow our community internationally!
In collaboration with Fashion Revolution and Fashion Open Studio, The Patchwork Family will create a series of showcases and experiences in Berlin, Paris and London, where we will present the newest generation of upcycling rockstars from the Netherlands to an international audience. Our main goal for this project is to grow our diverse family of upcyclers, demonstrating to Europe how our generation can revolutionise design with new circular and democratic solutions.
FIRST STOP: BERLIN
Our first stop in January will be in Berlin during Berlin Fashion Week, where we will be partnering up with the Haus der Materialisierung at the Alexanderplatz. Throughout this day, The Patchwork Family will host a showroom, stageroom and open studio.
In our open studio we bring the audience into the world of Patchwork Family, by showing them a day in the life of our team. We will create an interactive playground that includes a multitude of activities, from silk screening shirts to fashion photography. During this time, guests will also have a chance to visit the showroom, where our designers will showcase a range of Patchwork Family products. There will be drinks and bites, as well as live music to create a space in which our community and Family Members can connect, interact and have fun.
The evening will be closed off in the stageroom with queer back to back performances, showing our Family Members' newest work in an immersive showcase. By working with our own performers, as well as collaborating with Berlin-based performers, we will create a diverse and entertaining show, which will transition into a small after-party with DJ's from Berlin and Amsterdam.
Included in our showroom and performances will be our designers:
- Billy Jansen @characharaboy
- Denzel Veerkamp @denzelveerkamp
- Hannah Creak @creak_hannah
- Kenza Iatrides @kenzaiatrides
- Marco Blazevic @hvmblehvstle
- Meike van Lelyveld @meikevanlelyveld
- Rachel Klok @rachelklok
- Wolter Pot @wolterpot
- Yorick Papa @papayorick

WHY SUPPORT PATCHWORK FAMILY?
In order to continue to organize and finance inclusive open-to-public events and to keep adding young creatives to our network and shows, we have to look for the right partners.
We are a collective that has not only grown in designers this year, but also in the processes that play in the background, such as production, management and creative direction. In addition to our own contributions, that finance our individual collections and plans, we are always looking for parties interested in contributing to our community of designers and public events.
For our show in Berlin, we have scraped together our savings to make these collections become a reality, but need the funding of others to establish an amazing event that can cater to a wider audience. This will also give us a backbone to work from in the future.
If you support us, your money will be used to organise a day long event that holds true to what our community stands for. An open space to enter and experience, that wants to make fashion a social playground to be enjoyed by everyone. Contributing to our cause means you will not only support our designers, but helps us fund equipment, housing, catering, DJ's, performers, photographers, videographers and many other essentials. And last but not least, it will give us financial stability and space to keep creating eccentric showcases for a wide range of people.
If by a miracle, we happen to receive more funding than our set goal, we will use this money to create even bigger and better interactive spaces for young creatives to showcase in. Be this during our next shows in Paris, London and Amsterdam or another location that is screaming for some change.

ABOUT US
The Patchwork Family was born from a group of freshly graduated designers that experienced the high barrier of entry in the fashion industry, therefore wanting to lower this bar for fellow young designers.
Whilst every Family Member has complete creative freedom in their design process, we have a strict focus on up-cycling, which in our eyes is the most sustainable way of working. We believe that being resourceful with already-existing goods will always outweigh producing new items. Finally, up-cycling is also the most democratic way of making fashion, since it is most accessible from both a financial and technical point of view. By combining the diverse approach of each of our creative Family Members and the guidelines we have set around up-cycling, we show the vast possibilities that this way of working has to offer.
Since our last showcase at Club Church in Amsterdam, we have been enchanted by its unique participatory moments and want to continue creating powerful and eccentric showcases, building inclusive spaces for designer and community alike. This is why The Patchwork Family does not only represent its Family Members, but shares its platform with different performers, photographers, videographers and DJ’s. We bring these creatives from other disciplines with us to share our stage and to show off the community that we are as a whole. By collaborating with different collectives from other European cities, we want to grow our international community with shared values. We don’t believe in competition; we believe in fighting together for our ideals.
We hope we provided you with enough information and got you excited to support us in our cause towards a more democratic and circular fashion industry.
