My name is Jonatan Alvarado, and I am a singer and player of (very) old songs, be them contained by medieval and renaissance manuscripts scattered all over the world, or found in the oral traditions of Europe and the Americas. My performances regularly feature rare, seldom heard musical jewels, played and sung with historical techniques and instruments, but without loosing touch with contemporary audiences and practices.
This crowdfunding aims to fund the release of my second solo project - following my debut album 'Pajarillos Fugitivos' - in collaboration with Belgian guitar player Jessica Denys, and featuring guest singers Sophia Patsi and Juan Vizán.

About the project
At the beginning of the 20th century, Buenos Aires was rapidly turning from provincial swamp to world class hub. This disconcerting metamorphosis provoked a quest for a local identity, a sense of belonging to the inhabitants of a city and a country that were rapidly changing beyond recognition. The venerable image of the outlaw, wandering gaucho, became a symbol of resistance in the face of modernity. And with it, the "canto criollo", a series of poetic and musical genres based on the old dances and songs of 19th century Argentina.
We bring to you a very special program containing music that could have been heard back a hundred years ago, late at night, in a cafe or in a political comité in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Taking songs from the most important singers and players from the 1900's to the 1920's, we will show the rich diversity and beauty of the long forgotten early repertoire around which tango legend Carlos Gardel grew. From the old country-side traditions to the new exciting folies from the cosmopolitan city, soon to be exported to the whole world... All this played in an original 1913-15 Francisco Nuñez' guitar and a recently restored Rebasti guitar from 1910-21.

About the Recording and the Campaign
The recording of "Voces de Bronce" was done in May of 2022 at the legendary Galaxy Studios, in the most silent recording space in the world. It was produced by Brendon Heinst, using state of the art, ultra-high resolution and native-immersive recording technology. The extraordinary definition of the sound capture will allow these wonderful music, originally recorded more than a hundred years ago and in the lowest possible quality, to reach new audiences in the highest possible quality currently available. The CD will be released by Dutch label TRPTK, and will be available before the summer of 2023.
I am hosting this crowdfunding to cover costs related to recording, producing and mastering the cd, as well as the crew's travels and lodging. We have created different rewards options to ensure that any and every level of help receives the recognition it deserves. Now more than ever, artistic projects devoted to our common historical heritage cannot survive without the direct support of devoted listeners.
Thank your very much for your interest, collaboration, and support!
