Over mij
Overeenkomsten zien in onze verschillen.

About me
My name is Vainergill Thurnim (1997, Amsterdam), and I am a freelance dancer, choreographer, teacher, and event producer. I create dance performances with core themes of connection, empathy, and understanding to provide a deeper insight into the human experience. Through movement and artistic expression, I aim to create a space where the audience can connect with the emotional complexity of relationships and personal growth. My goal is to bridge different perspectives, encourage reflection, and open dialogues that contribute to greater empathy in society—finding common ground in our differences.
In 2020, I graduated from the Dance Teacher program at the Academy for Theater and Dance. Prior to that, I completed the pre-education and MBO at the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts. With diverse training in commercial and contemporary dance, I have developed a unique artistic style that integrates West African dance aesthetics, allowing me to experiment endlessly with movement and expression.
I have had the privilege of collaborating with choreographers such as Alida Dors and Roshanak Morrowatian, as well as prestigious theaters like Podium Mozaïek and CC Amstel. I have also worked with organizations such as Danstheater AYA, CREA, DOX, and TjillSkillz, expanding my artistic network and repertoire.
"Dat de zon altijd schijnt"
"Dat de zon altijd schijnt" is a dance theater production that delves into the deeper layers of human connection and explores the dynamics of expectations within our relationships. The performance focuses on the symbolic power of the sunset as a metaphor for transformation and the passage of time.
In a world where relationships form the core of our existence, I feel the need to offer a deeper and more nuanced perspective on the expectations we hold towards ourselves, our loved ones, and the world around us through this production. Dance is a powerful medium to express these universal themes and connect with the audience in ways that words cannot.
The theme of expectations in relationships is chosen due to its universal relevance and complexity. Expectations influence the dynamics of human relationships and often lie at the heart of both joy and conflict. I aim to explore this theme to promote a deeper understanding among individuals and initiate dialogues about the impact of expectations in our lives. To tell this story, I draw inspiration from the phases of the sunset, symbolizing both the end of a day and the beginning of something new—a moment of contemplation, self-reflection, and beauty.
In a 45-minute performance, various forms of relationships and their associated expectations will be examined. Eleven performers, professional dancers and individuals from diverse backgrounds (retired professionals, semi-professionals, students, and amateur dancers) aged between 10 and 68, will embody the narrative.
"Dat de zon altijd schijnt" is set to take the stage on February 8 and 9, 2024, during the New Makers Festival RRReuring, produced by Podium Mozaïek.
